I have died and somehow managed to come back to life after the slayage I just experienced while watching the Met Gala Red Carpet. And of course I indulged even more afterward by clicking through all the images online.
This year at the Met, they were honouring Comme des Garcons founder Rei Kawakubo and the theme was “Art of the In Between”. Comme des Garcons is the definition of avant-garde, so tonight I wasn’t looking for picture perfect dresses that you would normally wear to the Oscars or the Golden Globe red carpets. I wanted over-the-top and out-of-the-box!
There were a lot of top knots, buns, and blunt bobs when it came to hairstyles, and there were some ladies that came dressed in your typical “evening gown.” But there were others like Katy Perry, Rihanna, and Janelle Monae that pushed the bar, knocked it over, and let it all hang out for fashion.
My favourite look of the night was Zendaya wearing Dolce & Gabbana. Before I knew it was her, I originally saw the back of her dress and hair and said to myself “that really looks like Zendaya.” Then when she turned around, I nearly had a heart attack because she was serving me everything with her look. I feel like I would’ve loved the look more if she added an elaborate headpiece as well, you know, just to be extra.
